Happy March everyone! We are already starting MONTH THREE of 2020! As I mentioned in this post, my main goal this year has been to go on more adventures with my daughter. I really want to get out of the house more, and take Josie somewhere fun at LEAST once a month.
Unfortunately this plan did NOT pan out in January.
I had scheduled a trip to the Central Florida Zoo – then I threw my back out.
So I rescheduled our zoo trip for the following weekend – then I threw my back out AGAIN.
(If you couldn’t tell, I have a lot of back issues. I’m basically an old lady.)
So I took some time to heal and recover, then we tried again for February. This time we made it!
Our Trip to the Central Florida Zoo
Our zoo trip was so much fun. The weather was perfectly cool and the zoo was not crowded at all.
Josie got to see lots of animals, including giraffes, a rhinoceros, black bears, lemurs, a leopard, and alligators. The Central Florida Zoo also has some cute gardens full of plants, flowers, fountains, butterflies, and birds. Josie enjoyed toddling her way through the garden paths to look at all the pretty blossoms.
After we walked around and saw all the exhibits, we had a yummy lunch of Sonny’s BBQ before heading home.
A Great Family Destination
The Central Florida Zoo has quite a few perks that make it a wonderful destination for families with children. There is a fun splash pad that is included with zoo admission, which is a perfect place for kids to cool down on those sweltering Florida afternoons. The splash pad was closed for renovations when we went, but I would love to bring Josie back in the summer to play in the water.
On top of that, there’s a merry-go-round and a miniature train at the zoo entrance. Another cool element is the ropes course/zip line/obstacle course outside the zoo, which looks like a unique and exciting experience for people who are adventurous enough to try it!
My favorite part of the Central Florida Zoo is the various animal experiences. You can actually feed the giraffes, interact with the rhinoceros, and feed barnyard animals like goats at the petting zoo. How cool is that???
If you’re in the Central Florida area and you are looking for something fun to do with your little ones OUTSIDE of the theme parks, I highly recommend this zoo. It’s a perfect laid-back destination where your child can have lots of fun, without the crazy crowds and wait times.
All in all it was a great little day trip and I can’t wait for the next one!
